What is PRIMA?

PRIMA - Program of Inclusion through Music and the Arts - was conceived by Paraiba's Governor Ricardo Coutinho, with participation of the Secretary of Culture of Paraíba, Chico César, who in turn brought to Paraíba Maestro Alex Klein to develop a Plan of Action and direct the activities of the Program. PRIMA is inspired by the performance of "El Sistema" in Venezuela, and NEOJIBA in Bahia.

PRIMA's main objective is the teaching of citizenship principles through orchestral music, extending as well to Symphonic Bands and Choirs. PRIMA is a social project, which seeks greater interaction between paraiban people through music and arts.

PRIMA is not a music school. It is a school of citizenship where the musical performance offers a microcosm of society, where examples of mutual support and respect for others can be identified and turned into life lessons to its students.

All music lessons at PRIMA are readily transferred to the student's social work, and every artistic endeavor is directed towards this transfer, constantly, so that the main objective of PRIMA - citizenship - is never out of sight or is supplemented by the mere appearance of an artistic priority.

But it is precisely the artistic excellence that will outline the excellence of citizenship. The more detailed and refined the artistic and musical aspects are, the stronger the social transfer will be. Clear and simple examples are constantly added to clarify the children and young people how to behave in society, according to principles found in symphony orchestra playing (see examples on page orchestral citizenship "Orchestral Citizenship Lessons" below).
